Fixed Wire Testing is a mandatory requirement for all commercial and industrial premises. All electrical installations suffer damage and deterioration throughout their operational life, which makes these tests essential in confirming the safe operation of the installation.
Electrical Testing and Inspection
What we do?
Often seen as a complex and expensive problem or “black art” by managers and business owners, Jupiter Engineering works to make this essential process straightforward and transparent for its customers and partners.
Our fully trained engineers carry out an inspection prior to commencing work, to ensure any critical operations are not unduly affected by the testing. Any critical issues are brought to our client’s attention immediately and a plan of remedial action is agreed.
Quality and accuracy of reports are critical to the electrical safety process. Our reports are thoroughly checked by a Qualifying Supervisor before being issued.
Customers and partners have easy access to all certificate and documents online so they can be presented to an insurer or inspector on demand.
Documentation and Online Portals
Customers and partners have easy access to all certificate and documents online so they can be presented to an insurer or inspector on demand.
Ultimately it is our team that make the process work. All our engineers have City & Guilds 2360/2391 and IEE Wiring Regulations (18th Edition) qualifications and we undergo an NICEIC audit every year in order to validate that we have the skills, knowhow and procedures to help keep your business safe and compliant.
Jupiter Engineering are recognised experts in this type of electrical testing and can help you ensure that your organisation complies with all the relevant electrical regulations
Electrical Remedial Works
Installation testing is only part of the electrical safety compliance requirement. It is essential that remedial work is completed following testing to ensure due diligence.
When electrical safety testing is completed any ‘damage, deterioration, defects and dangerous conditions within the installation’ will be reported as follows:
Code 1 – requires urgent attention
Code 2 – potentially dangerous and should be given urgent attention
Code 3 – improvement recommended
All required remedial works identified whilst testing will be detailed within our reports. Sign off sheets are issued to provide a formal closure of defects which enables traceability to each defect.
When does a Periodic Inspection (EICR) need to be carried out?
It is recommended that periodic inspection and testing is carried out at the following times:
For tenanted properties, every 5 years or at each change of occupancy, whichever is sooner
Every 10 years for an owner-occupied home
Every 5 years for a business
The Landlords and Tenant Act 1985 requires landlords of properties with short leases to keep the electrical wiring in repair and in proper working order. We recommend landlords arrange for periodic inspection and testing to be carried out by a registered electrician at the relevant intervals shown above.
Periodic inspection and testing of the electrics should be carried out more frequently on the places and premises listed here:
3 years for a caravan
1 year for a swimming pool
